AutoPilot FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
| I created a task and setup a trigger but my task never runs. What's wrong? |
First, make sure the task runs correctly when launched manually.
Select the task in the list and right click and select "Run".
If the task doesn't run the edit the task and scroll the actions list to the right.
It will display the last result of the actions. If any action failed you will see an error message there.
You can also test any action from within the task properties dialog by selecting the action and clicking on the Test button.
If the task runs fine manually but not from the automatic trigger then there may be a problem with the trigger.
First, make sure that the scheduler is running.
Open the "Scheduler" menu. If the start button is not grayed, then the scheduler is not running.
If the scheduler is running and your task still doesn't launch you'll need to turn on error logging to find the problem.
Some triggers, like the mail trigger, have to perform several tasks in order to test the trigger.
If there is a problem, the triggers will write an entry in the error log.
The error log must be turned on. This is done in the "System Options" dialog.

| How do I setup AutoPilot to startup and run my schedule file when Windows starts? |
AutoPilot can be set to run whenever Windows starts a couple of ways.
The easiest is to set the option "Run AutoPilot at Windows startup" in the "Advanced" tab of the "System Options" dialog.
AutoPilot will remember the last file or files that you had loaded. It will automatically load those files.
Each scheduler file can be saved with the scheduler either running or stopped.
If the scheduler was running when it was saved, then the next time it's loaded it will automatically start running.
Another way to run AutoPilot at startup is to create a shortcut in your Windows startup group.
If you don't specify an AutoPilot file in the command line, it will open the last file that you had opened.
There are several command line options to control the way AutoPilot starts.
You can also setup an individual task to run at Windows startup.
To do this, select a task and right click. Choose the "Create Shortcut" option and select "In Startup Group".
This command will create a shortcut in the startup group to run the task. |

| My task runs fine when I run it manually, but doesn't get triggered automatically. What could be wrong? |
| Some triggers must toggle state before they can trigger again.
For example, if you have a trigger set to go off whenever a file exists, the trigger will not launch again until the file no longer exists and then reappears.
A good troubleshooting technique is to use the Log to File action to record whenever a task runs.
With this action you can create a log to determine if you task is running when you are not there.
Be sure to turn on error logging in the "System Options" dialog also.
This will tell you if any of the actions in your task are failing. |
